Hey again 👋🏾

I’m Abifoluwa (Abby-foe-lou-wah)

💼 UX Designer | 📍 DC Metro Area | 💡 Problem Solver

Student of life over here.

I am currently based in the Washington D.C. Metro Area and I love everything related to education. Whether it's being enrolled in various programs and learning languages or teaching students content and how to advocate for themselves, knowledge is power.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.~ Nelson Mandela

Initially, I became a high school STEM teacher because of the impact I wanted to have on students who could relate to and looked like me. What I thought would be a two-year Teach For America commitment, turned into a seven-year whirlwind that has transformed who I am as a person. As a result of teaching, I've become more emotionally intelligent, methodical in the way I think and work and a stronger team player who welcomes constructive feedback.

Yup, still learning about stuff.

In addition to teaching, I wanted to become more marketable long-term and understand the business and strategy side of organizations - hence me enrolling in my MBA program. During these two years, I took courses focused on strategy, marketing, research and innovation, consulting for an energy efficiency company focused on sustainable solutions and program development in the process.

I took a course on Digital Transformation, feeling completely lost prior to that. I would ask myself "how could you find a career where you'd be able to impact people on a larger scale, while still utilizing your education background?" BOOM.

The bridge between “student of life-ness” and UX design.

After hearing about the UX Design field in class for about 27 seconds, I decided that it was worth researching, and the overlap UX has with both education and business absolutely blew my mind. From the ability to empathize with students to utilizing data and information to deliver on a client's needs, UX design allows me to be creative, give back to others in the form of an awesome UX experience, all while putting a smile on people's beautiful faces - be it the users or the clients.

Outside of learning, I do things that make me happy. What are those things?

  • Trying to relive my traveling experience by pretending I’m booking a flight to an exotic location

  • Experimenting with new meditation and yoga videos/sessions

  • Tempting my puppy with toys and treats… or snow

  • Cooking the latest Thai, Nigerian, Italian or vegan recipe that’s caught my interest

  • Binge watching pretty cool shows and movies on Netflix, Hulu and Bravo :)
